The Graduate School Fellowship-Education Pioneers

 

Education Pioneers recruits and develops talented business, law, policy, and education graduate students with diverse professional backgrounds and helps them launch high-level education leadership careers through the Graduate School Fellowship. There are two placements for the Graduate School Fellowship – the 10-week summer placement and the yearlong placement.

Both placements for the Graduate School Fellowship feature:

  • High-impact work experience as a project consultant for a leading education organization
  • Leadership development workshops that examine complex urban education issues and deepen Fellows’ understanding of the landscape
  • Access to a robust, nationwide network of industry experts and Education Pioneers Alumni

Fellows complete projects such as developing a student achievement data system for a school district, preparing growth and quality expansion plans for charter schools, and performing advocacy work to support school turnaround strategies. In addition, past Fellows have:

  • Managed a $600,000 charter school facility renovation
  • Presented policy recommendations to the Secretary of Education
  • Forecasted the effects of a school district’s human capital initiatives
  • Designed professional development curriculum for a school
  • Conducted legal research for education-related litigation

10-Week Summer Program Dates 6/10/13 – 8/16/13: Boston, New York Metro, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, Houston                   

6/17/13 – 8/23/13: DC Metro, Chicago, Detroit, Denver, Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles                             Yearlong Program DatesFor each site, Yearlong programming begins on the same date as 10-Week Summer programming and runs through June 2014.

To be eligible for the Graduate School Fellowship, applicants must:

  • Have completed at least ONE year of graduate studies and be in good academic standing, or hold a graduate degree
  • Have at least TWO years of full-time professional work experience (undergraduate summer work or internships cannot be considered collectively as full-time work experience) by the start of the Fellowship (June 2013)
  • Be authorized to work in the United States (International students are eligible to apply only if they are authorized to work in the United States and do not require any visa assistance. Those without a Social Security Number must obtain one by the start of the Fellowship in order to receive the stipend).
  • Be able to commit for the entire duration of the program (either 10 weeks or one year) beginning in June, and attend all workshops and other mandatory aspects of the Fellowship program
  •  

In addition to the eligibility requirements, we are looking for applicants with the following characteristics:

  • Experience in finance, strategy, marketing, operations, human resources, curriculum design, professional development, policy analysis, urban education or law
  • Energetic, self-starter who takes the initiative to drive to results even in ambiguous situations
  • Strong commitment to Education Pioneers’ mission to transform public education and our core values of courage, optimism, collaboration and action
  • Track record of excellence and success in academic and professional settings
  • Exceptional project management and interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Applicants must submit an online application for the Graduate School Fellowship by one of the two remaining deadlines:

  • December 12, 2012: Priority Round deadline
  • February 1, 2013: Final Round deadline

 All candidates to apply by December 12, 2012, as the majority of our Fellowship offers are made from the Priority Round.  A limited number of offers will be extended after the Final Round deadline of February 1, 2013.
